Illuminating Heels

 Francesca Castagnacci, an Italian-born, fashion designer who has fueled her artistic inspiration in a rather revolutionary fashion concept . Her latest project involves the design of hats and shoes using special optical fibres enduced into fabrics and creating effects with light and dimesions.
Her fiber-optic-wrapped stilettos is Clad in fabric woven with light-reflecting optical fibers and high-efficiency light-emitting diodes, each shoe radiates an ethereal luminescence that is splashy, not flashy.

        

        

Jean Paul Gaultier for La Perla

Gaultier: Lingerie is part of my DNA and of my heritage. It is now almost thirty years since I have designed my first corset dress, and in my latest prêt-à-porter collection I revisited the conical bras and corsets worn as outerwear. This collaboration was a natural and logical step especially since La Perla is the pearl of the lingerie, with a long history and the best savoir faire.

Bea Szenfeld is Taking her inspiration from the sea, the collection, Sur La Plage, is made entirely out of paper.

Jane Bowler's Fusion

Jane Bowler’s avant-garde raincoats, Sculpted from recycled and reappropriated plastics, including shower curtains, Bowler’s “Fusion” collection marries the poles-apart aesthetic of the traditional Japanese straw coat and the classic British macintosh. The Royal College of Art graduate’s process is completely stitch-free, a combination of industrial techniques such as heat-forming and ultrasonic welding. (The latter method involves high-frequency ultrasonic acoustic vibrations to bind materials together.)

"Fusion is designed to make plastic fantastic for longer,” she says. “And to create a garment that the owner will be reluctant to throw away.”

Fusion will be on display at the Royal College of Art’s Upper Gulbenkian Gallery, as part ofLondon Design Week, from September 23 to October 7.
